Windows updates have been failing for months now. Error code 80073712 is the most common error code and the one I got when I tried updating today. Sometimes there have been other error codes as well but yesterday I tried running every fixit type program I could find reference to in the Microsoft Windows 7 suite and perhaps they have helped a bit. sfs/scannow ran with no errors.
