Found a faulty RAM chip in my machine which was replaced. The machine, as far as I can tell, is working fine apart from the fact that I cannot use Windows update.
I've been playing with SURT and other suggestions on this fine forum but still cannot get past it.
When I try SFC / Scannow (as according to the 'Windows Update Posting Instructions'), I get:
